Bible Study- March 22

Today's Reading: Joshua 12-14, 1 Corinthians 7

The faithful man of God, Caleb, recieves God's promise to him and the added benefit was having a healthy life to enjoy God's promise.  In Joshua 14, Caleb declares that when he was 40 years old, he was sent to explore the promised land and he brought back a favorable report according to his convictions. He followed the Lord wholeheartedly.  The land on which his feet walked would be his inheritance from the Lord. Now 45 years had passed and he is still as strong and vigourous enough to go out in battle yet waiting to recieve that promise. So again he requests that which he had been promised. He acknowledges what God had done by saying the Lord helped me drive out the people of that land. So he was blessed with that land which we know today as Hebron.  Wait upon the Lord. Observe and obey his commands. Be faithful, wholeheartedly. Request again that which was promised after you have done your part.  And He will give you that which was promised to you.

Today's Reading: Joshua 3-6, I Corinthians 4

Those who have been given a trust by God must prove to be faithful.  Joshua and Paul were two such people.  Joshua was entrusted with the nation of Israel to navigate them through the Jordan river and through the promised land.  He was faithful in listening to God and following his instructions in order to receive what was promised to Israel and to himself.  He was rewarded by the Lord for his faithfulness and God exalted him above his people.  Other nations feared him because they knew that God was with him and he was unstoppable.  For Paul, he was demonstrating his faithfulness to God by carrying on the work God gave him to do no matter what the cost.  Even though he suffered hardship for doing what was right in the sight of  the Lord, he remained faithful in the teachings of Christ to those churches he fathered. Paul also instilled in Timothy the same way of life in Christ as himself and found him to be faithful.  May we all be found faithful to the teachings of Christ till His return.

Today's Reading: Joshua 1-2, Psalm 37, I Corinthians 3

Psalm 37 is written by David who is reminding himself as to who he is as a Christ-follower and how he is to conduct his life. Trust in the Lord and do good. Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord.  Be still and wait patiently for the Lord. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath. Hope in the Lord.  Meekness is rewarded. You are blameless and righteous, blessed, and just and faithful to God.  He gives you wisdom, salvation, and a hope and a future.  May we all practice this type of conduct daily in our representation of Christ to the world.

HAPPY ST PATRICK'S DAY!!!!!!!

Today's Reading: Deut. 32-34, 1 Cor. 2

We have the mind of Christ. Not through human wisdom but through the Spirit of God. No one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God and when we receive His Spirit we now have access to and may understand what God had freely given to us. What is it that we have access to from God?  We have access to the Spirit of God expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.  What are the spiritual words and spiritual truths?  It is the word of God that brings us into understanding by way of the Holy Spirit to interpret and apply spiritual truths and words to our every day life.  So now that we have this access what exactly do we do with it?  We use what the Spirit of God teaches us to be a witness to others who are in need of the Savior which is Christ the Lord.  Notice I did not say go witness.  To be a witness is to let others see what you do and how you handle your everyday life by the principles of the Word of God under the direction of the Holy Spirit. When they see a difference in your life they want to know why and will ask. Then share the good news of Jesus Christ. To go witness is a man made process without specific direction from God. These are two very different processes. One is God generated, the other is man generated.  May we all tap into God's wisdom under the direction of the Holy Spirit to be a witness for Him. Blessings!

Today's Reading: Deut.30-31, Ps. 40, 1 Cor. 1

It is because of Christ, himself that you are in Christ Jesus who has become for us wisdom from God-that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.  So let you who boast, boast in the Lord. He chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong and the things that are not-to nullify the things that are so that no one can boast before God.  Listen, God did all the redemptive work in our lives because we could not save ourselves.  He wanted a relationship with us because He loved us, his creation. It is up to us to receive what He has done for us so that we can love him back and be with him forever! He lavishes great gifts on us to enjoy and to use those gifts to bring others to Christ. He says, I set before you blessings and curses, life and death-choose life!

Today's Reading- Deut. 28-29, Gal 6

A man reaps what he sows. If he sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature he will reap destruction. The one who sows to please the Spirit will reap eternal life.  Are you doing life to please the Spirit? Or are you doing life to please yourself?  One of the ways to please the Spirit is to do what the Word says and bring others to hear the message of Christ.  A big holiday is coming up when a great number of people flock to church.  How many are you bringing with your family to hear the good news.  This is something that pleases the Spirit.  Another thing.  How many of us see a need that we can easily meet, especially for a brother in Christ and just meet it. This pleases the Spirit. Paul says it best in Galatians 6 :15- Neither circumcision nor un-circumcision means anything: what counts is a new creation.  How many are a new creation today because someone took the time to share their story about their encounter with Jesus?  Some thing to think about.

Today's Reading: Deut. 19-21, Gal 3

We receive God's Spirit by accepting the good news of the finished work of Christ. It was not through signs and wonders that we are saved. It is not based on living the law out to its fullest. It is not based on anything we ever did.  Salvation is based on what Christ did for us.  He died to forgive our sins and when He rose from the dead the power of sin was broken and we became reconciled to God.  It is a free gift.  Just open that gift for yourself and receive the benefits of that gift.  May we all be living life to the fullest for Him who gave us everything we ever needed to enjoy God and the plans He has in store for us.

Today's Reading:  Deut 16-18, Ps 38, Gal. 2

When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations.  God knew before hand the nature of man and what he would do and when. So God would set up safeguards for his people. For instance, before there was a king among the Israelites, He knew that they wanted one just like the other nations. They wanted to imitate the practices of other nations.  So even though God wanted to be their King, and their leader, he gave them guide lines for a king. He must be chosen by me. He must be from among your brothers. He must not acquire great numbers of horses. He must not acquire, many wives lest they lead you away from me. He must have a written copy of the law from the levites and he is to read it daily so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees and not consider himself better than his brothers and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then the king will rule a long time over the Kingdom of Israel.  Even though man has a tendency to wander from what God had planned for him, he makes provision to bring them back to himself.

Today's Reading: Deut 13-15, Galatians 1

Just as Paul was called by God before his birth to minister to the Gentiles of his time; so are we called to do the work of Christ in our lifetime.  Paul chose to do the work he was called to and so we too must make a choice to do the same.  Christ knew before the foundation of the world who would be his followers and who would not make such a choice.  Our job is to just share the good news of what he has done for us. We are called to share our story of what the LORD has done for us. What people see in us in the way we live our lives before them will determine how they view Christ.  Our actions, just like Paul's actions, speak louder than words.  What will your actions tell someone who needs to know who Christ is and what he has done for them?  Rather than go witness, be a witness to someone.
